Scraps v2.2.0-beta Update
by JLeopolt - 9/27/2026
Revival Update
It's been nearly two years since the last Scraps update, v2.1.0-beta. In that time, we've developed a new auth provider, website, and a new game (TBA). Scraps has lived through it all, but a month ago it finally died for a moment. Our original server host was terminated after 4 years due to rising RAM prices, and we're now self-hosting our services. This meant the end for Scraps - or so it would seem. Scraps has been neglected for all this time, but today it's getting a small overhaul. Let's discuss the changes.
Wipes are now semi-annual
Scraps will now wipe every 6 months instead of once a month! This should help increase player commit to each wipe and give players more time in the mid-to-late game, which means more combat, more raiding, more building, and more creativity! Wipes will happen on a fixed schedule, once on December 15th at 12AM, and once on June 15th at 12AM. This gives you exactly 6 months in each wipe to get set up and have fun!
Updated deployment
Scraps is now deployed in a dockerized container, meaning in the future it'll be easier to redeploy and scale. Our streamlined configuration also makes it easier to make changes, and to control the wipe schedule. In the future, this system could be super useful in Scraps 3.0 - whenever that happens.
Version locked to 1.20.4<= and <1.21.9
Minecraft 1.21.9 introduced a breaking change to how resource packs work. In the future we would like to upgrade Scraps to a newer version, but for now it'll stay on 1.20.4+, but to prevent confusion and frustration - versions 1.21.9 and above will no longer be supported. For best results, please play on version 1.20.4.
Balancing
Players can now only be admins on up to 6 lockboxes at once. This is to prevent abuse and lockbox spam.
Some crafting recipes have been rebalanced, like the Eoka no longer requiring netherite scraps to craft, all lower-tier pistols are significantly cheaper, some ammo types are cheaper, grenades are cheaper, fireworks are much cheaper, the salvaged oven no longer costs netherite scraps to craft, trap items are much cheaper, and some other small crafting changes.
Tree saplings will also replant themselves more infrequently, which should hopefully reduce the amount of tree spam that tends to happen when chopping down a single tree.
Disabled pistons to prevent abuse.
Disabled grinding of signed books. You can still grind writable and regular books.
Quality of life
Players now spawn with a helpful Guidebook containing basic information about the game. You will also receive a new copy each time you respawn, and can always get one by running "/guide".
Added a few more in-game helpful tip announcements.
Bug fixes
Explosions will no longer deal massive damage through walls and from super far away. Now, explosion damage will factor in whether the player/entities are behind cover, and deal much less damage. Explosions will also be more forgiving to unexposed players who are far away, where previously a powerful explosive would kill anyone within 20 blocks.
Disabled the bugged/obsolete Overloaded Flare Gun item.
Fixed bugged ore regeneration causing inconsistent coverage.
Disabled enderman spawns.
Enjoy and have fun!
